The main Puerto Escondido street, which links Suárez Guerra to San Clemente, is set to undergo a complete makeover from next year onwards. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, under the jurisdiction of Strategic Planning, Environmental Sustainability, and Public Services, has recently approved the contract for the development of a renovation project for this street, located near the Parque Bulevar shopping centre, that currently features dining terrace areas.
The contract, awarded to Civil Engineer Iván Solla for a total of €15,194, includes the creation of a feasibility study of the area as well as the design of the urbanisation project for Puerto Escondido street. The work is estimated to take around four months to complete.
Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, informed DIARIO DE AVISOS that “the contract has just been granted for the drafting of a renovation project for this street, which connects Suárez Guerra with San Clemente, with the objective of transforming it into a unified platform that involves enhancing the sidewalk, implementing new lighting, and assessing the current placement of waste bins.”
The councilor mentioned that “once the study is finalised, the project will be examined and approved by the City Council before proceeding to tender the work, as part of the city’s improvement plan, with Puerto Escondido being a part of the projected enhancements.”
Tarife also specified that “the plan is to finalize the design of the project by the end of the year, in order to commence the renovation work in this area during the initial months of 2025.”
Puerto Escondido street, located in the Centro-Ifara district, spans a current length of 266 meters, offering a large walking area alongside a traffic lane, with separate entrances provided for vehicles wanting to access either of the two parking lots located in this vicinity.
These scenarios need to be considered in the project, calling for comprehensive and detailed layouts crucial for defining the work, as well as those outlining the utilisation of impacted lands and utilities.
Initiative to Enhance Streets and Public Spaces in the City Centre
The city is currently undertaking an initiative to enhance streets and public spaces. The City Council is presently overseeing the renovation works on San Martín Street, part of the Special Protection Plan for El Toscal, alongside those on La Rosa Street, with plans in place for the pedestrianisation of Santiago Street as well.
