SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The PSOE candidate for the Canary Islands in the upcoming elections on 9th June, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, expressed on Saturday during a visit to the Miramar neighbourhood in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that it is time to “prioritize the right to housing and integrate it into the European social pillar. “We, as socialists, stand strong for this,” he added.
Accompanied by fellow PSOE members from Tenerife, such as regional deputy and local councillor Patricia Hernández, island councillor Aarón Afonso, and senator Marta Arrocha, the socialist candidate pointed out that large investors should not dominate what is a fundamental constitutional right, and he called for the implementation of “State Housing Law in the Canary Islands, ensuring opportunities for young people to achieve independence.”
“Legislative developments should be substantial and in line with European legislation. We need to defend the unique circumstances of the Canary Islands in a smart, rational, and persuasive manner, while also anchoring them within a rejuvenation of the European social pillar,” remarked the candidate.
López Aguilar reiterated the significance of participating in the voting process on 9th June, emphasizing that the socialists are “the clear response against the rise of far-right extremism, fuelled by fake news, deceit, and intimidation tactics.”
“Voting is crucial as the European Parliament directly represents us; it is not just another ballot. There is a lot at stake, we must invest in our future and that of our children, and cast our votes on June 9 with confidence that the Socialist Party is geared towards winning these elections and serving the people’s needs,” he concluded.
