Great music provided by Parranda Chasnera, heralds of the patronal festivals in honour of San Antonio de Padua and the Virgin del Rosario, kicked off the lineup of events scheduled until 15th June. An event held in the surroundings of the church square in the old town of Granadilla de Abona where the 20 candidates for children (6), adults (9) and elders (5) pilgrimages were also presented.
The mayoress, Jennifer Miranda, encouraged everyone to enjoy and actively participate in these festivities that “strengthen us and serve as a bond for our community and belonging to the town of Granadilla de Abona.” She praised the Parranda Chasnera family as heralds who, with almost 20 years of history, are a part of the South conveying the pride of being Chasneros through their lyrics.
Francisco Socas, councillor for Culture and Festivities, highlighted that these heralds “are a fundamental part of this town and carry the name of the municipality to every corner of Canarias.” He expressed his happiness that Parranda Chasnera is announcing these celebrations and serving as the common thread for over thirty scheduled events.
The president of Parranda Chasnera, Juan Antonio Reverón, recalled that this “group of friends” will celebrate two decades in 2025, he spoke about the birth and anecdotes of the collective, their first rehearsals, and how their local in the old town of Granadilla is a space for music, culture, and welcoming the townspeople. Parranda Chasnera, led by Pedro Izquierdo, performed part of their repertoire.
Additionally, in the setting of the square in this historic town centre, the six candidates for children’s pilgrimage were introduced, which will be chosen during the gala to be held from 8:00 pm today at Parque Los Hinojeros. Also present were the five candidates for the queen of elders, whose election gala will take place on Tuesday at the same venue and time. Along with them, the nine adult queen candidates, a gala presented by Emilia González on the 31st, starting at 9:00 pm at Parque Los Hinojeros.
The XLVI Pilgrimage of San Antonio de Padua will take place on 2nd June through the main streets of the historic town centre. This is one of the most remarkable festive moments in the municipality every year. The Youth Night (Friday, 7th June); the floral parade (13th June), by the youth band of drums and bugles from Güímar, and the concert by Parranda Chasnera (8:30 pm on the same day) stand out in the programme.
