SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands Parliament is hosting open days from 27th May to 1st June to increase public awareness about the institution among the residents of the archipelago. Visitors are welcome from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on the final day when only morning hours will be available.
Astrid Pérez, the president of the Chamber, stated that through this initiative, part of the activities scheduled for the celebration of Canary Islands Day, the goal is to bring the Parliament closer to the people and make it easier for individuals to explore their headquarters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to learn about its history, heritage, architecture, and functions.
Astrid Pérez emphasised, “We are fully prepared to accommodate as many visits as possible. We hope many Canary Islanders will come to our Tenerife headquarters next week to discover the Parliament. The building is very unique and appealing, steeped in history and filled with artworks, primarily serving as the citizens’ abode. It is where decisions are made that impact the daily lives of our eight islands.”
While guided tours are available for groups at the Canary Islands Parliament throughout the year, they are often in high demand, leading to longer waiting times. The president highlighted, “Through these six days of open doors, we aim to offer the opportunity for everyone interested to celebrate Canary Islands Day by visiting the very place that sparked the commemoration, established on the occasion of the inaugural plenary session of the Canary Islands Parliament on 30th May 1983.”
The Canary Islands Parliament headquarters is situated at 7 Teobaldo Power Street, adjacent to the popular Castillo Street in Tenerife’s capital.
