Tenerife is brimming with weekend activities thanks to both public and private initiatives to keep entertainment thriving on the island. From traditions to cinema and music for the whole family, there are enticing options lined up for the coming days to ensure you have a delightful time. Here are the plans scheduled for this weekend:
May Festivities
Santa Cruz de Tenerife continues this weekend with its May Festivities. On Saturday, the SON 21 Festival will take place at 9:00 PM in Plaza de la Candelaria, while on Sunday, DLokos Sinfónico will entertain the audience at 8:00 PM in the same location. The event will feature the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Music Band, Carlos Goñi, and Ruts and the Isla Music.
Cinema
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will screen the film Brave Hearts (Coeurs vaillants, 2022), directed by the French filmmaker Mona Achache, this weekend at 7:00 PM. Based on real events, the movie depicts the perspective of the child protagonists facing the horrors of war and their experiences at Chambord Castle, which safeguarded the great works of art of that era. The film will be shown in its original French version with Spanish subtitles.
Traditions
The pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza will take place this Sunday starting at 12:00 PM, following the Mass, featuring the rendition of the ‘Misa Canaria’ performed by Tigaray.
At 6:00 PM, the saints will be carried into the Main Parish of Apóstol Santiago, marking one of the most emotional moments of the festive programme, accompanied by chácaras, pitos, and tambores played by the Folkloric Group Sabinosa de El Hierro, who have been direct witnesses to this event for over 40 years.
Following the pilgrimage, two musical performances will commence at Plaza Viera y Clavijo and Calle Doctor González, with acts by the orchestras Malibú, Maquinaria Band, and Grupo LD on the first stage, and the Musical Duo AM En Clave on the second.
Humour
Bilbao-born comedian and writer Galder Varas, with over two million followers on social media, will take the stage at Teatro Leal in La Laguna this Sunday with his ‘stand-up comedy’ show ‘This is Not a Show’. Armed with a microphone, he promises a night filled with jokes, anecdotes, and plenty of improvisation. The show starts at 8:30 PM.
Spanish composer and singer Conchita will deliver a concert this Saturday at 8:30 PM in La Laguna, also at the Teatro Leal. The artist will enchant the audience with songs from her latest album ‘La bola de nieve’, the seventh in her discography, as well as her greatest hits.
