SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 24th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands has received 2,685 applications for the latest round of recruitment for 141 positions in the open shift category for entering the basic rank of the General Corps of the Canarian Police, equating to an average of 19 applicants per position. This round of recruitment commenced last November and was reopened on 11th April to increase the number of positions available.
Currently, 2,151 applicants have been provisionally accepted from the total number of applications. There are 387 cases that have been excluded but could potentially be accepted if certain irregularities are rectified. Lastly, 147 applications have been rejected for not meeting the requirements outlined in the recruitment announcement.
In this selection process, the 61 positions from the 2022 Public Employment Offer (OPE) and the 80 positions from the 2023 OPE were combined through a resolution by the General Directorate of Studies, Training, and Research in Public Security.
Minister Nieves Lady Barreto has emphasised the significant interest generated by the recruitment drive for the Regional Police, which is currently being expanded to all islands. She notes the high volume of applicants for the latest round of recruitment. Furthermore, she mentions that by the first quarter of 2025, the Regional Police force will comprise 410 officers, with the Government’s projection aiming to exceed 550 officers through a new recruitment drive for an additional 150 positions, scheduled for 2025.
