The Ministry of Education is expanding the educational options in Arico by establishing the new Abades Compulsory Education Centre. This move aims to alleviate the enrolment pressure on other schools in the vicinity. The Ministry has initiated a tender process for the drafting of the project for this new facility, with a budget starting at 171,741 euros.
The forthcoming building will be situated on a 12,256 square metre plot provided by the Ariquero City Council. It will comprise 13 units with a total capacity for 330 students, including 66 in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, 150 in Primary Education, and 114 in Secondary Education.
Facilities
As outlined in the technical guidelines for the project drafting, developed by the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Facilities, the new Abades CEO will house classrooms for Infant, Primary, and Secondary levels. It will also feature multiple-purpose rooms, areas dedicated to students requiring specific educational support, and a resource room inclusive of all necessary spaces such as a fully adapted bathroom and a multisensory stimulation room.
Complementing this, the project will incorporate a music room, a versatile function hall, laboratories, a library, a sports hall, changing rooms, a cafeteria, as well as outdoor garden spaces and a school orchard. The drafting contract is open for submissions until June 7 through the public sector procurement platform and is expected to be completed within five months from the award date.
This new facility is set to mark significant progress in the south of Tenerife, an area that has witnessed a notable increase in population, translating into a considerable growth in educational demand.
