The Municipal Government Board of La Laguna City Council has decided, during its latest meeting, “to terminate the existing license for the operation of bar services, showers, changing rooms, and other amenities at the natural pool of Arenisco de Punta del Hidalgo”, as confirmed by city officials yesterday.
This license was initially granted by the Municipal Government Commission in November 1996, allowing the use of the facilities on a temporary basis. This resolution by the Board marks the beginning of an administrative process for the eviction of the public property, currently occupied by the business Restaurante Arenisco, which has ten days to respond to the allegations, stated the sources.
It was noted that the management of the café and other amenities at the Arenisco swimming pool was awarded by the council back in 1991 for a period of up to five years. Subsequently, in November 1996, the company received authorization to continue offering its services.
The Councilor responsible for Beaches and Swimming Pools, Ángel Chinea, highlighted that “nearly three decades have passed, and considering that the services are not up to par, the council has opted to take back control of the facilities.”
Once the process of terminating the current operating license is complete, “we will explore the most suitable options for managing the services. Before initiating a new tender process, we need to obtain approval for the concession from the general management of Costas, a request that has already been submitted”, he elaborated.
It is pertinent to mention that the council has previously requested administrative concession of the municipal swimming pool from Costas for the purposes of managing and upkeeping the facilities.
