The Socialist Group in the Tenerife Island Council has presented an amendment to the budget modification proposed by the government group for the Plenary Presidency Commission, which will take place on Friday. In this proposal, the PSOE suggests cancelling several items, including protocol expenses, and creating an island park of protected housing, with a budget of €20 million for this current year. An amount they consider feasible within a budget of over a billion.
These resources would expand the current plans for land and property acquisition and would be managed through the Municipal Assistance Office, so that municipalities have support when they lack technical capacity or when deadlines are excessively long for building or buying housing.
The proposal foresees, in coordination and collaboration with the municipalities, expanding the island programs for the purchase of land and completed or semi-finished properties, all with the aim of constructing or completing them and putting housing in the hands of the citizens.
Socialist councillor Priscila de León explained that “the Island Council must assume the competencies granted by law through planning and execution. And this can only be done through the budget.” Pedro Martín, President of the Socialist Group, argued that, “being one of the most important issues for the people of Tenerife and with the Island Council having had this competence for only a few months, the funds must be increased to reach all 31 municipalities.”
