SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21st May (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Council has earmarked 475,000 Euros for three subsidy schemes aimed at boosting and enhancing livestock farming in Tenerife.
The Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, stated in a press release that the subsidies aim to improve the quality of bovine and goat milk (200,000 Euros), support breeder associations for the preservation and enhancement of native bee breeds (125,000 Euros), and provide supplementary bee feeding on the island of Tenerife (150,000 Euros).
“Our goal is to assist farmers in developing more competitive farms, showing a strong commitment to the primary sector as a crucial economic activity for the island,” he highlighted in the statement.
All these support schemes are part of the Strategic Subsidies Plan of the Tenerife Council.
The Primary Sector Minister stressed that “in this scenario, these subsidies are particularly significant, following the severe fire that affected a large part of the island last summer, resulting in extensive consequences for the livestock sector in the affected areas.”
González emphasised that “alongside the repercussions of the fire, other factors like rising prices and energy costs have placed Tenerife’s livestock sector in a fragile position compared to other markets,” which is why they will “continue to collaborate with this economic sector and contribute to its reinforcement in the upcoming years.”
