La Laguna hosts the Family Day celebration this Saturday, an event organized by the City Council through the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Departments of Commerce, Sports and Youth, bringing together in the city center a wide range of leisure, recreational and sports activities throughout the day. The public response until noon has been overwhelmingly positive, with a large participation in each of the scheduled activities in five areas of the town centre, where the presence of children with their families has been the predominant trend. The attendance at the different activities has boosted the number of people in the center of La Laguna, surpassing 10,000 individuals.

The events began just after 10:00am with a parade by the 101 Brass Band, whose lively performance encouraged people to hit the streets and enjoy a festive day where the good weather throughout the morning has contributed to increased participation.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez,, along with the Councilor for Social Welfare, María Cruz, the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Estefanía Díaz, and other members of the Corporation, have officially kicked off the day, encouraging everyone to enjoy the numerous scheduled activities.

“This is a very emotional event where we are giving a unique opportunity to the diverse families in our municipality, and to all those who wish to join, to enjoy a special, endearing day filled with activities for all ages, both the young and the old,” stated Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who, around midday, considered that “we can already talk about a successful participation and response from our fellow citizens, who have overwhelmingly come to live this day to the fullest.”

The mayor also emphasized the municipal government’s commitment to such initiatives that help energize the city. In this regard, he recalled that all the stalls and activities on the street have been positioned respecting the presence of tables and chairs from the restaurant terraces, to not interfere with commercial activities. Additionally, the program of events will conclude at 8:00pm to allow residents to rest.

The Family Day program is divided into five thematic areas in the city. Heraclio Sánchez Street hosts a large part of the family activities. Inflatable castles, escape rooms, caricaturists, face painting, emergency vehicle exhibitions, and family workshops are some of the offerings.

At Hermano Ramón Square, the Fantasy Zone is dedicated especially to children. Here, there are children’s songs, clown shows, puppet shows by the Tragaluz company, storytelling by oral narrator Antonio Conejo, and magical discussions with Héctor Fernández. All these offerings have sign language interpreters and a breastfeeding area will be available.

At Cathedral Square is the Functional Diversity Zone and the area dedicated to sports. This zone features various workshops run by associations, the House of Disability (an initiative to understand the reality that people with disabilities must face), the popular photo booth with the giant figure of King Kong, and several spaces for sports activities.

At Supreme Board Square and San Agustín Street are the rock market and the geek market, as well as an area dedicated to promoting associations. And a fifth area is dedicated to the circus world, located at Aneja School and Javier Fernández Quesada Student Park. There, acrobatic shows, juggling, clowns, giant dinosaurs, and Jurassic world animation take place.

Simultaneously, four guided routes are being carried out throughout the day to the main heritage sites in the historic city centre, all starting from Adelantado Square.

The Social Welfare area has two orange points, to facilitate the participation of people with disabilities, and two violet points to provide safe spaces throughout the day.
