This Saturday, May 18, Los Realejos will be abuzz with the highly anticipated Magicians’ Ball, a key highlight of the town’s May Festival meticulously organized by the Festival Department. Around 80 tables, pre-booked for a delightful Canarian dining experience with loved ones, will be set up along Avenida de Los Remedios and the square above the commercial establishments of this street, nestled between the intersections with Calle El Sol and Calle Reyes Católicos.

The musical extravaganza, spread across four distinctive areas, will kick off at 10:00 p.m. and keep the party going until the early hours of 6:00 a.m. Canarian folk bands from Los Realejos will take the stage at 11:00 p.m. at the roundabout stage on Avenida de Los Remedios. The scheduled lineup includes performances by Guayacsanta from 10:00 p.m. to 10:50 p.m., Chirato group from 11:00 p.m. to 11:50 p.m., Chiguet party from 12:00 a.m. to 12:50 a.m., Los Dóniz Folk Group from 1:00 a.m. to 1:50 a.m., Tigaray group from 2:00 a.m. to 2:50 a.m., Echeide Folk Group Valle Verde from 3:00 a.m. to 3:50 a.m., and finally the Los Trigales Folkloric Group from 4:00 a.m. to 4:50 a.m.

Moreover, the Plaza Viera y Clavijo stage will feature performances by the orchestras ‘Corinto Band’, ‘Sabrosa’, and ‘Arguayo Band’ in that order. Down on Doctor González Street, ‘Kimbara’ and ‘Teideswing’ will grace another stage for lively entertainment. Tenerife Street will once again host a vibrant youth area with DJ music sets.

Preserve Tradition

Under the leadership of Isabel Socorro, the Department of Festivals and Historical Heritage emphasizes the ‘As it should be’ initiative to encourage the correct wearing of traditional attire. This initiative aims to safeguard the essence and significance of this celebration, a sentiment extended to the forthcoming Pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza on May 26.

Promoting Safe Spaces

In collaboration with the Department of Equality led by Macarena Hernández and the Federation of Arena and Laurisilva Women’s Associations (FAMAL), designated ‘Violet Points’ will offer guidance, awareness, support, and immediate assistance to victims of harassment, violence or discrimination. These points will be stationed outside the municipal Social Welfare area of Los Realejos City Council on Avenida de Canarias and at the field hospital in Casa de El Llano on Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19. A similar setup will be available during the Pilgrimage on May 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

Operating under the theme ‘I want myself free… from sexist violence’, this project not only raises awareness about gender-based violence but also creates secure environments for responsible revelry during the festivities. Trained professionals will be on site to assist individuals in case of any incidents, ensuring immediate support, knowledge of rights, and access to necessary services.

In the event of harassment or violence, a dedicated helpline (618.816.270) is available to swiftly connect individuals to appropriate services during these large-scale gatherings.

Enhanced Transportation

Los Realejos City Council is running an extensive social media campaign to inform the public about increased public transport services catering to the Magicians’ Ball celebrations.

Additional buses will be deployed by Titsa, with three extra vehicles on routes connecting Puerto de la Cruz to Los Realejos from 6:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Another four vehicles will operate the same route from Icod de los Vinos. Further, from 04:45 to 10:00 on Sunday, May 19, seven buses will reinforce services from El Puente (Los Realejos) to facilitate transfers to various municipalities on the island based on demand.

The Department of Transport in Los Realejos, in collaboration with local taxi associations Servitaxi and Radio Taxi, has arranged for two supplementary stops near the festivity area, specifically on Avenida de Canarias (in front of Correos) and on Avenida de Los Remedios (near the Local Police Headquarters).

Complimentary Parking

To accommodate visitors attending the Magicians’ Ball, Los Realejos City Council will offer free and uninterrupted access to the parking building located at the rear, accessible via Taoro Street, from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, through 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.
