An analysis conducted by Facua-Consumidores en Acción has identified Santa Cruz de Tenerife as one of the Spanish cities witnessing significant rises in urban taxi fares over the past year. The report reveals that all fare components applicable in the capital of Tenerife have surged by approximately 22%.
Facua’s study is based on the emulation of nine different routes in each city, utilizing official data containing the current rates for 2024. Ratings have been assigned to evaluate the cost of a one-kilometer journey (or the minimum distance chargeable in each city), as well as distances of five and ten kilometers, encompassing daytime, nighttime, and weekend tariffs.
The analysis highlights that out of the 57 cities scrutinized, 35 have recorded price hikes in taxi services compared to the previous year. The most notable increases, across all three routes analyzed, were reported in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with a substantial surge of 22.9%, followed by Pamplona (9.5%), and Cádiz and Vitoria (both registering 7.5%).
Furthermore, Santa Cruz de Tenerife stands out for registering the highest escalation in the minimum fare this year, advancing by 22.2% during daylight hours. Valencia (with a 10.0% increase), Cádiz (rising by 7.7%), and Girona (observing a 6.1% uptick) follow suit. The average cost per kilometer (or equivalent waiting time) amounts to 1.55 euros in the Tenerife capital. Conversely, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Ceuta are identified as locations where taxi services are more economical.
