SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

On Tuesday, the Provincial Station of the National Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife held a ceremony to award diplomas to its retired agents. The event was graced by the presence of the subdelegate of the government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Jesús Javier Plata Vera; the chief commissioner, head of the province, Eloy Román López, and the commissioner, head of operations in the province, Raúl Contreras Sabio.

Emphasising the retired agents’ significance, whether native to or adopted by the Canary Islands, it was noted that they have been witnesses to the recent history of our country and autonomous community. Their daily dedication has played a vital role in making Spain and, particularly, the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one of the safest countries and tourist destinations globally.

At the event, diplomas were presented to retired National Police officers as a tribute to their professional journeys in upholding public security and serving citizens. The authorities underscored how these retired agents, as members of the national police force, have courageously confronted the challenges facing Spanish and Canarian society. Over time, they have contributed to making Spain and Tenerife, in particular, safer for tourists worldwide.

Among the retirees honoured at the ceremony were the pioneering women of the National Police, who blazed a trail for many others. Today, women make up 18 percent of the institution’s collective workforce. Additionally, the ceremony paid tribute to the agents who were on duty during the attempted coup d’état on February 23 in Congress, as well as those officers who bravely faced terrorist violence in our nation.

This ceremony marks the end of their professional careers, during which they have received well-deserved recognition from the top officials of the administration and the National Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
