In a meeting held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Government Council of the Canary Islands sanctioned the appointment of three representatives to the Advisory Council of the Canary Islands. The appointed individuals are Alfredo Belda, María Australia Navarro, and Luis Fajardo Spínola.
The Executive spokesperson, Alfonso Cabello, announced in a press conference that Navarro, a senator from the PP party, has already submitted her resignation request at the Upper House.
Alfredo Belda, a graduate in Law from the University of La Laguna in 1989, practised law until 2011. In 2014, he received the silver badge from the Illustrious Bar Association of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in acknowledgement of his 25 years of professional practice.
Starting as a General Administration technician in the Cabildo of Tenerife in 1989, he later transitioned to a career civil servant position in the Technical Subscale of General Administration, Local Administration (Group A1), at the Tenerife Tax Consortium.
Belda served as a deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands from the III to the VII legislature. Additionally, he held the position of deputy spokesperson of his Parliamentary Group and served as the first vice president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands from 2004 to 2007.
He also worked as a senator for the Canary Islands from 2007 to 2011, followed by a role as a councillor of the Canary Islands Advisory Council from 2012 to 2018. Since 2018, he has reclaimed that position.
María Australia Navarro de Paz, hailing from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, holds a degree in Law and a diploma in Matrimonial Law. She practised law from 1985 to 2003 and was honoured with the Distinguished Cross of the First Class of the Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort.
Navarro served as a senator in the VII and XV legislatures, the latter being an autonomous designation. She also held the position of deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands from 2003 to 2023, assuming various roles such as spokesperson for the Popular Parliamentary Group and Second Secretary of the Parliament Bureau.
Noteworthy roles in her career include Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands from 2003 to 2005, and head of the Rumbo Norte Program at the Cabildo of Gran Canaria from 2005 to 2007.
Luis Fajardo Spínola, born in Arrecife in 1946, holds a Law degree since 1968 and a Doctor of Law. He is a professor at the University School in Madrid since 1970 and a Full Professor at the University of Administrative Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of La Laguna.
He is also a Member of the Order of Constitutional Merit. Fajardo served as a deputy of the Cortes Generales for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife from 1977 to 1993, participating in the discussions for the approval of the Spanish Constitution.
Elected as a regional deputy for Lanzarote in 1995 and re-elected in 1999, he resigned from his position as a representative due to his appointment as an advisor to the Consultative Council of the Canary Islands, a role he currently occupies.
