The Forum for Progress of Tenerife recently demanded solutions from the Minister of Territorial Governance and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres to tackle the issues affecting Tenerife. The new association recently met with the Canary Islands minister and other representatives of the Socialist Party (PSOE) on the island such as Pedro Martín and José Miguel Fraga, as part of the series of meetings they are holding with political figures to introduce themselves and exchange viewpoints on relevant topics for Tenerife and its future. Business leaders expressed their concerns about the social unrest reflected in the April 20th demonstration and the risks of directing it against a vital sector of the economy like tourism.
The Forum for Progress in Tenerife made a clear request to both the minister and the other representatives present to set aside political affiliations to reach unanimous agreements that allow for solving the problems that have been affecting Tenerife for too long and are not directly related to tourism. In this regard, issues such as the implementation of gas or mobility difficulties were cited as examples.
Regarding the application of the tourist tax, which was one of the topics addressed by the minister in his speech, the president of Ashotel, Jorge Marichal, was firm in expressing his opposition to this measure that would reduce competitiveness, concluding that it would be more effective to better manage the money lost, as is the case with the European Next Generation funds.
The goal of this new association is nothing more than to boost the growth potential that Tenerife has within the Archipelago by promoting entrepreneurial spirit, competitiveness, and the development of free enterprise and society in general. Through such encounters, the association encourages analysis and debate in collaboration with other economic and social actors and also with the administration on matters deemed essential to reduce the economic and social imbalances that hinder our development.

Therefore, the Forum wanted to extend a hand to the administrations in search of solutions that help alleviate the current challenging situation.
