SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The MUECA 2024 awards at the Puerto de la Cruz International Street Art Festival were granted to the shows ‘Follow me’ by the Belgian group Be Flat, and ‘Sylphes’ by Sylphes Aerial Ballet. Additionally, a special recognition was given to the clown Mr. Copini for his vibrant performances in ‘Walo World’ and ‘The Herock’.
Following the evaluation of fifty different shows over four days, a panel of judges composed of Luciano Fernández, the director of Narón Theater in Galicia; Silvina Silbergleit, director of the San Martín theatre complex in Buenos Aires; and Carmen Nieves Farrais, a member of the citizen platform Cómplice MUECA, deliberated and commended these performances for their creativity, engagement with the audience, grace, and charm.
The MUECA 2024 Award was conferred upon Be Flat “for presenting an exemplary standard of street art to the hosting city; a performance that appears spontaneous, yet is meticulously crafted with substantial effort put into its execution, and is executed with precision.”
The group behind ‘Follow me’ arrived in Puerto de la Cruz, specifically in the La Ranilla neighbourhood, several days prior to the event to tailor their act to the surroundings and deliver a one-of-a-kind experience to the spectators.
“Follow me is like a bespoke garment that encourages the audience to admire the city’s facades, balconies, furniture, and heritage from a fresh perspective.” Parkour movements intertwined with theatrical flair were the focal point of each scene, with the audience of all ages actively participating as well.
Further, the judges praised the Sylphes Aerial Ballet performers for presenting “a visually stunning show that will be remembered by all who witnessed it.”
‘Sylphes’ had everyone’s gaze fixed skyward for 45 minutes. “The spectacle’s blend of technique, composition, professionalism, and expertise undoubtedly merits the MUECA 2024 recognition.” The judges also applauded the aerial setup several meters above ground, which captivated the thousands of onlookers in the Dock area with each graceful display.
“The precision of the shapes the dancers traced in the air; the lighting and effects enhancing the performance, bolstered by their youthful enthusiasm and professionalism, have etched a lasting impression on all privileged to attend.”
Additionally, a special mention was bestowed upon the clown Mr. Copini, “for his spontaneity, audience connection, and unique ability to ignite the joy machine. GRIN”. A fitting tribute to his impromptu first involvement 15 years ago when he stumbled upon this festival while residing in Puerto de la Cruz.
