Participation of about thirty professionals expected at the Tenerife Forestry Summit

The Tenerife Cabildo has arranged the Tenerife Forestry Conference Our mountains post the significant blaze of 2023, scheduled from June 4 to 6. It will see the involvement of approximately thirty specialists in forestry, agriculture, and livestock.

Targeted at the general audience, informative sessions will be held at the conference venue in the assembly hall of the Superior Polytechnic School of Engineering at the University of La Laguna. The funding for this event is provided by the Canary Islands Employment Service under the Comprehensive Employment Program of the Canary Islands and the State Public Employment Service.

Emphasising the importance of the conference, Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, stated that it will facilitate communication on fire emergency management, fostering a platform for dialogue among various professional groups, technical staff from the Administration, livestock and agricultural groups, researchers, and the public.

The Tenerife Forestry Summit will spotlight four key themes centred around the pressing issue of forest fires. The agenda will delve into the history of the island’s mountains, ongoing fire prevention efforts, and the operational strategies implemented by various groups during fire suppression.

These sessions will also involve field visits to areas impacted by the fire, allowing attendees to witness the restoration work in progress. Furthermore, a segment dedicated to social participation will be held, with the presence of invited associations actively engaged in the restoration efforts.

Wrapping up the event will be the unveiling of the Brifor Operation for the Prevention and Extinguishing of Forest Fires for the 2024 fire season, along with a summary of findings from the technical sessions held throughout May. These discussions will focus on forestry communication during emergencies, fire prevention management, and other pertinent topics.
