SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Alicia Vanoostende, the spokesperson for the Ecological Transition of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, commended on Friday the Government of Pedro Sánchez for its “promptness” in implementing measures to ensure energy security in the Canary Islands, following the announcement by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge responding to the requests of the Canary Islands Government and acknowledging the cost of extraordinary measures aimed at enhancing the electricity supply in the archipelago.
The socialist representative emphasises the Government of Spain’s “concern” for the unique circumstances of the Canary Islands and points out that the Ministry’s response has been “swift”, following the suggestions from the regional Executive to carry out the ‘express competition’ that meet the energy deficit requirements identified by the system operator (Red Eléctrica) in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
According to Vanoostende, the ministry’s “prompt” response follows the blackout in La Gomera last summer and the declaration of an Energy Emergency in October by the Canary Islands Government, demonstrating its attentiveness to the specificities of the islands.
