The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, expressed his cooperation with the justice system in the investigation by the European Prosecutor’s Office into the ‘mask case’. This led to a twelve-hour police raid at the Health Department in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Thursday.
“Let them do everything they need to do,” he stated in an interview with ‘Radio Club Tenerife‘ as reported by Europa Press. Torres emphasised that this matter is “under legal investigation” and that last Thursday, internal documents and email accounts were primarily inspected, among other things.
The Minister noted that procuring medical supplies during the pandemic was a tremendously complex task during a very challenging period. He mentioned that he would attend investigative committees if called with “complete composure” to explain the actions taken.
“I believe that good management was carried out,” he remarked, highlighting particularly the data on the number of deaths, hospital admissions, and PCR tests conducted in nursing homes compared to other autonomous communities.

With that said, and with the presumption of innocence, if there have been wrongdoers or individuals who have broken the law, let the full weight of the law fall on them,” he explained.
The ‘mask case’ concerns the management of the Canarian government under Torres in the last term, involving an investigation into the payment of four million Euros to a non-specialised company in medical supplies for a million masks that were never delivered – they were confiscated by Customs for being counterfeit.
