SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife’s Council has initiated a process to enhance the management of the Tax Consortium through a Modernization Plan, implementing various measures for the benefit of citizens.
In addition to the existing online services that aim to reduce the need for physical visits, the Council is evaluating ways to introduce more flexibility in certain offices for tasks that require swift handling, such as payments or issuing payment documents.
Juan José Martínez, Minister of Innovation, Research, and Development and president of the Tax Consortium, highlighted that “currently, all procedures within the Tax Consortium are conducted online, enabling any interested party to interact with the entity in this manner, eliminating the need for physical visits”.
He added, “We understand that there are still citizens in some municipalities who prefer to visit the offices in person; therefore, in Consortium offices with sufficient space and staff, we plan to set up walk-in stations for simple or urgent procedures to ensure efficient service for all.”
Martínez also mentioned ongoing organizational enhancements within the Tax Consortium, including the introduction of a dedicated helpline for local councils to address preliminary queries before providing personalized assistance.
“Our goal is to enhance service quality and citizen attention, which is why we are conducting coordination meetings and implementing comprehensive initiatives across all our services,” he elaborated.
The Tenerife Tax Consortium, established by the Council of Tenerife, streamlines tax management and collection for the member Corporations.
The Consortium’s operations encompass the management of various taxes, such as Real Estate Tax (IBI), Economic Activities Tax (IAE), Vehicle Tax (IVTM), Tax on the Increase in the Value of Land (IIVTNU), Tax on Construction, Installations and Works (ICIO), Traffic and Administrative Sanctions, as well as public law revenues like Waste, Sewer, and Ford collection fees.
The legal framework of the Tax Consortium offers a dual advantage, grounded in its local entity status ensuring legal certainty, and its instrumental entity nature linked to or dependent on the consortium of local entities.
