The Cabildo de Tenerife is offering, through the Verano Joven (Youth Summer) programme, 75 spots in three free camps for boys aged 14 to 17 years old between 24th June and 31st July. The initiative from the insular department of Youth aims to provide a creative meeting space for this segment of the population to promote coexistence, teamwork, and creativity. There will be two specialised camps focused on theatrical and scenic creativity, and a third one on the environment. These will take place at the Students’ Residence in San Andrés, in the coastal village of Santa Cruz. The insular council is now open for registrations, and applications will be accepted from Monday 13th to Monday 27th May on the website www.tenerifejovenyeduca.com. Each camp will accommodate a maximum of 25 participants. The selection of candidates will be conducted through a draw from all received applications, and the date and location of the draw will be announced after the deadline.

The Creative Camp will be held in two groups from 24th June to 3rd July and from 8th July to 17th July, respectively, with 50 spots, 25 in each. It is aimed at youngsters aged 14 to 15 who will turn 16 in 2024 (born between 1st January 2009 and 31st December 2010). It offers a creative and emotional experience towards self-awareness through art, where each participant will develop their potential with shared play and artistic activities. This initiative promotes that all participants will have daily access to a group workshop in Scenic Resources where they will work on various disciplines such as theatre, circus, music,… They will choose between the following options: Film Production and Scriptwriting or Dance, Expression, and Creation. They will collectively produce a piece presented at the final Gala, to which families will be invited. The schedule will also include other activities like workshops, games, outings, excursions, and many more surprises yet to be revealed.
Environmental Camp

The Nature Camp is designed for 25 boys aged 16 and 17 (born between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2008). The aim is to encourage participants to connect with the environment. It will take place from 22nd to 31st July, also at the San Andrés Residence. The goal is to raise awareness about the urgent need to implement good environmental practices in the immediate surroundings and to preserve Tenerife’s rich natural heritage. Visits from young influencers already engaged in environmental actions are planned. They will share their projects and actions with the participants. The schedule will also include full-day and half-day educational outings to explore the Island’s biodiversity and create actions to enhance the immediate environment. These activities will include beach clean-ups, hiking, spelunking, stargazing, and identifying and preserving native flora and fauna to conserve and protect Tenerife’s natural heritage.

The insular Youth Councillor, Serafín Mesa, explains that summer camps “are much more than just recreational activities; they are spaces where young people can grow, learn new skills, and create lasting memories”. He adds that “the activities offered in the camps are designed to promote the personal and social development of the participants”. Therefore, from the Cabildo, he concludes, “we encourage young people to seize this unique opportunity to broaden their horizons and enjoy an unforgettable summer”. Tenerife Joven y Educa is part of the Employment, Education, and Youth Area of the Cabildo de Tenerife. The project develops youth and educational programs that aim to have a positive impact on the lives of young people, students, teachers, and families on the Island, promoting participation, training, social and educational values, and youth information.
