SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3rd May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Authorities of the National Police have detained a Belgian man in Arona (Tenerife) who was sought under a European Arrest and Surrender Order (EAW) issued by Belgium for the alleged sexual assault of a minor, with a potential sentence of two years in prison.
The incident leading to the arrest of the fugitive took place in February 2020, while he was employed at a playground. Allegedly, in the absence of the minor’s mother, he is said to have engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the child, as stated by The National Police in a press release.
As soon as the officers were informed about the EAW issued by the Belgian authorities, they initiated efforts to locate the individual. After receiving information suggesting that he might be in the Canary Islands, an investigation was launched, resulting in the identification of the potential area of his presence.
Subsequently, a surveillance operation was put in place, culminating in his apprehension after he was located.
