Tenerife is full of weekend activities with both public and private initiatives to keep entertainment alive on the island. Traditions, cinema, and music for the whole family are enticing options coming up in the next few days for your leisurely enjoyment. Here are the plans for this weekend:
May Festivals
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting various events for its May Festivals this Saturday. Until Sunday, the Garcia Sanabria Park will host the Santa Cruz Book Fair 2024 and the XLVII Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Canarian Crafts. Additionally, at the Flower Clock area, there will be different performances of Gorgorito Maese Villarejo and his animated puppets. On Saturday and Sunday, the shows will be at 12:00 and 18:00. On the latter day, at 19:30, there will be the closing ceremony of the exhibition, followed by an awards ceremony and a concert at 20:00.
Music
Arona will host the TributeFest this Saturday with a tribute to Elton John , Ultimate Elton and the Rocket Band, led by The Rocket Band at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium at 20:30. This show has toured globally, featured on numerous TV shows, and even for Elton John’s own family.
Cinema
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will screen this weekend, at 19:00, Music (Musik, 2023), the new feature film by Angela Schanelec. Starring Aliocha Schneider and Agathe Bonitzer, the film is a fascinating contemporary interpretation of the Oedipus tragedy. Music won the Silver Bear for Best Script at the last Berlinale and the Best Director and Best Cinematography awards at the Valladolid International Film Week. It will be shown in the original German version with Spanish subtitles.

In addition, Multicines Tenerife, in La Laguna, will showcase short films and feature films during the weekend as part of the IV edition of the Tenerife Spanish Film Showcase. The event, starting this Friday, will conclude on May 11th and will include guest meetings, aiming to establish the event as a quality film showcase in our country.
Mother’s Day
La Laguna is gearing up to celebrate a special Mother’s Day market to promote local consumption this weekend. The event La Casa de las Flores will open its doors from 11:00 to 20:00 at the Aguere Hotel this Saturday and Sunday, featuring free workshops for all ages, yoga, face painting, games, and other family-friendly activities.
Performing Arts
Zálatta Espacio Escénico (Carretera Monte de Las Mercedes, 119, La Laguna) presents this Saturday, at 20:30, Beyond the Avatar, immersing the audience in the heart of Cyberia, a virtual world.
Also this Saturday, at 20:00, the Leal Theatre in La Laguna will host the show by Sergio Bernal where he takes a journey through the most important choreographies and music of the Spanish repertoire such as The Three-Cornered Hat and Sarasate’s Shoe-Stamping by Antonio Ruiz Soler and Manuel de Falla; Orgy by Sergio Bernal and Joaquín Turina; The Last Meeting and The Swan by Ricardo Cue and Bolero by Maurice Ravel. A show that combines the strength of flamenco, the accent and character of Spanish dance, and the virtuosity of classical dance.
Hiking
On Saturday, May 4th, the Nature Classroom of the Municipal Culture Board of the Arona City Council will organise the seventh Anaga Hiking Route. The route includes stops at the Amogoje Viewpoint – El Bailadero – Hoya de Jauna Carta – El Cresal – El Cercado Valley – San Andrés. The distance is approximately 11.5 kilometres and takes around five hours.
Football
After defeating Real Oviedo in the last match, CD Tenerife returns to the Heliodoro Rodríguez López to face Racing Club Ferrol. The team, under Asier Garitano, who will be absent from the bench due to suspension, will play on Sunday at 20:00.
