The Cabildo of Tenerife is investing 837,967.44 euros in sanitation initiatives in the town of Candelaria, with 80% funded by the island’s institution and the remaining 20% covered by the City Council.
Highlighting that one of the key focus areas during this term is to collaborate effectively between different entities to ensure proper management of the complete water cycle, with a strong emphasis on sustainability as a core element of good governance, Sonia Hernández, Minister of Municipal Cooperation, stated in a press release.
The Cabildo has recently awarded the contract for these activities to the Canaragua company, as part of the first phase of the Candelaria coastal sanitation network project which falls under the Island Cooperation Plan.
The project, with a timeline of 10 months, involves the establishment of a sanitation network to collect domestic sewage from the La Galera street area, as well as the construction of a pumping station (EBAR) and a delivery pipeline to connect these sewage flows to the existing sanitation network on Avenida Marítima.
Furthermore, there are plans to construct a new gravity drainage collector along Avenida Marítima, located between the Guaja Street semi-roundabout and the Punta Larga EBAR, to gather sewage from the avenue and lateral streets, directing it to the EBAR for conveyance to the regional treatment plant, as stated by the Cabildo.
Additionally, a new sanitation collector will be developed on Batayola Street and a segment of Los Menceyes Avenue to enhance the capacity of the current sanitation network, enabling it to cater to existing residences and upcoming urban expansions in the vicinity, and to collect water from the central area.
All activities will involve restoring the affected pavements and sidewalks due to the trenching work, as well as replacing any goods and services impacted during the project’s execution.
