An impressive total of 141 million Euros was spent by cruise passengers visiting Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2023. There has been a significant 16% increase in tourist spending compared to the previous year and a substantial 30% rise from 2019. These figures, provided by the Development Society, indicate a surge in business income due to the attraction of higher quality tourism.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, applauds the work of local entrepreneurs, stating that the growing interest of tourists in the city is evident from the numbers. Visitors are choosing to stay in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to explore its attractions and sample the products on offer.

CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, notes that in 2023, there was an increasing trust from cruise ships and their tourists in making a stop in the city. The tourists not only wander the streets but also actively contribute to the local economy through their spending.

Compared to 2021, the recovery in the tourism sector post-Covid has been exceptional, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Pérez is optimistic about the continuous growth in spending and tourist arrivals, which will provide a significant boost to the city’s economy and support the local merchants.

In 2023, over 3.2 million cruise passengers visited the city, marking a 15% increase from 2022 and a substantial 31.5% rise from 2019. These numbers signify a rapid economic recovery post-pandemic, with tourist expenditure increasing from 58.2 million in 2021 to the remarkable 141 million Euros in 2023.

Analysed data and forecasts predict a continuing upward trend this year, with a noticeable growth already seen in January and February. The influx of tourists has risen, with over 22,000 more visitors received in these two months compared to last year. Cruise passenger arrivals have significantly increased from 69,412 in January and February 2021 to an impressive 620,858 during the same period in 2024.

Additionally, the hotel occupancy rates reflect the positive trend, with a solid 71.4% occupancy during January and February 2024.
