The 1st of May is Labour Day, a day when the whole country seizes the opportunity to demand improvements in the workplace. This year, in Canarias, the central axis will be the loss of purchasing power.
As is customary on this day of protest, trade unions have scheduled a series of demonstrations and gatherings throughout the national territory to claim back the lost rights of workers.
In Canarias, mobilizations are planned on seven of the eight islands (all except La Graciosa). “Now it’s time to protect the employment contract, distribute business margins, continue improving employment and salaries, reduce working hours, and take care of the working class,” is the motto with which workers’ representatives are calling for this mobilization to continue.
All events are scheduled between ten and eleven in the morning in the Archipelago, starting at the following locations:
- Lanzarote: 10:00 Parque Ramírez Cerdá
- Fuerteventura: 10:00 C/ Primero de mato, 64 (Dirección Insular de la AGE)
- Gran Canaria: 11:00 Parque San Telmo
- Tenerife: 11:00 Plaza Weyler
- La Gomera: 12:00 Plaza América
- La Palma: 11:00 Av. Marítima (Delegación del Gobierno)
- El Hierro: 12:00 Zona de Malpaso

In the case of Tenerife, the planned route for the demonstration follows the usual path of the latest mobilizations on the island. Thus, it will start from Plaza Weyler and proceed through the streets of Méndez Núñez and El Pilar to conclude at Plaza del Príncipe.
