SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29th April (EUROPA PRESS) –
The first Conference of Island Council Presidents, as outlined in article 74 of the Statute of Autonomy, will be led by Fernando Clavijo, the President of the Canary Islands, on Tuesday. The event is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. at the Parliament of the Canary Islands, announced Alfonso Cabello, the spokesperson for the Canary Islands Government, during a press briefing after the Government Council.
The call for the Conference of Island Council Presidents, convening for the first time in history, was declared by Fernando Clavijo during the Nationality Status Debate aiming to foster an agreement with the island presidents for the advancement of a balanced, equitable, and sustainable territorial and population growth.
Alfonso Cabello highlighted that this gathering “aims to be a focal point for discussions on significant interests and common grounds to determine the direction the autonomous community wishes to pursue.” He added that it presents “an ideal platform to initiate a serene and extensive dialogue on the economy and the societal dimension of the archipelago.”
Cabello emphasised that “this is a remarkable opportunity to evaluate our development model and transition towards a more sustainable Canary Islands.” “The collective vision for the future of the Canary Islands must be constructed by envisioning not only the short term but also setting our sights on the path for future generations,” he further expressed.
The Government spokesperson underlined that this initial Conference of Presidents “also underscores the understanding that the collective journey we aspire to must acknowledge that each island and every part of the archipelago may progress at differing paces, and each island must voice its perspective on the model,” providing “a profound opportunity at this juncture for this assessment to take place.”
