Specialists from the Civil Guard tasked with investigating the macabre discovery of a woman’s body found floating in the waters surrounding the coast of the municipality of Arico are pursuing several leads while awaiting the findings of experts from the Tenerife Legal Medicine Institute to establish which line of inquiry could help unravel the mystery behind what appears to be the result of a violent act by unknown individuals.

The grim circumstance of the lifeless woman’s body being discovered with a plastic bag covering her head strongly suggests the possibility of foul play, prompting the judicial authorities to impose secrecy on the ongoing proceedings.

A local fisherman in the area of the Arican coast near the neighbourhoods of La Jaca and Las Listadas alerted the authorities last Saturday afternoon after stumbling upon the human remains.

Judicial Police officials from the Civil Guard attended the scene, assuming control of the investigation and informing the relevant judicial body to obtain authorization for the necessary procedures to retrieve the body.

While forensic experts are now tasked with resolving unknowns crucial for identifying the woman and piecing together the events leading up to her demise, all available sources, albeit limited due to the secrecy of the ongoing investigation, confirm that the victim had a plastic bag fastened over her head by the neck.

Regarding suspicions of possible dismemberment, experts cautioned that the location of the body at sea widens the range of possibilities and that the body’s state of decomposition will offer insights, such as the potential impact of marine life due to the duration spent in the water.
