The Las Galletas Outlying Clinic will resume its activities within two weeks, once the repair and refurbishment works on the facilities affected by the fire that occurred on March 10 are completed. The Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes; the Public Health Councillor, Puri Martín, and the Citizen Participation Councillor, Rubens Delgado, visited the healthcare centre accompanied by the director and deputy director of the Arona-Costa II Basic Health Zone, Leif Fernández and Juan Ramón Marrero, respectively.
Fátima Lemes highlighted the work of the Health Ministry of the Canary Islands Government and expressed satisfaction with the work “and the promptness” with which the repairs were carried out so that the Las Galletas Centre is once again available to users and no longer causes inconvenience derived from the need to travel to receive healthcare.
The works, which will be completed in fifteen days, have included tasks related to carpentry on doors and windows, as well as the replacement of damaged material and computer equipment at the clinic.
After the fire, the Primary Care Management of Tenerife proceeded to relocate the Las Galletas Outlying Clinic staff to the El Fraile health centre to continue their professional activities, ensuring that medical attention was not affected and services were provided as usual.
The Las Galletas Outlying Clinic staff is composed of four Family Care units, each one integrated by a Family Medicine professional, a Nurse, and an administrative staff member.
The Arona City Council has maintained constant communication with the Health Ministry to assess the damages to the building – valued by the technical team of the Infrastructure department of the Canary Islands Health Service – and monitor the daily activities at the El Fraile medical centre.
The municipal government of Arona indicates that the Canary Islands Health Service will inform about the reopening date of the Las Galletas medical centre and the location of the consultations. It has a registered population composed of 8,783 health cards.
The current municipal government has submitted two proposals to the Health Ministry to establish a suitable health centre in Las Galletas. Their proposal is to grant available land near the pavilion or an already built but unused property in Costa del Silencio.
