The proposed extension of the tram line to Las Teresitas comes with a total expenditure of 164 million Euros and is expected to benefit approximately 30,000 residents. This extension will cover the route from the Fairgrounds to the North Pier, and later onwards to the beach.

Detailed plans were unveiled on Friday during the Plenary session by the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, in response to inquiries from the Socialist Group. Emphasising the need to complete the entire line in both phases, including workshops and depots.

The government team considers mobility a top priority, with ongoing evaluations of various railway and tram projects. However, the specific demand study for the tram line to Las Teresitas has not been conducted yet.

Statistics from Titsa line 910 were referenced to support the tram extension, highlighting its success in transporting over 1.9 million passengers to the beach last year. This accounted for a 46% increase with an average of 170 round trips on weekdays and 140 during weekends and holidays, excluding special services.

In response to the tram expansion, Socialist Group spokesperson, Aarón Afonso, criticised the lack of decisive action by Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, regarding the Cabildo’s proposal for the Las Teresitas line initiated by the Santa Cruz City Council.

The socialists conveyed that prioritising the tram line extension to Las Teresitas is not a key concern for them. Meanwhile, Lope Afonso intervened to rebuke allegations from the socialists of intertwining with irrelevant matters of other administrations, stressing the Cabildo’s commitment to fulfilling Plenary agreements like the Los Majuelos expansion project.
