Adeje Town Hall cancels scheduled plenary session for Friday, motion on Cuna del Alma affected

The local government of Adeje, situated in the southern part of Tenerife, has decided to cancel the plenary session scheduled for this Friday. This session was meant to address various topics, including a motion put forward by Unidas Sí Podemos to halt the construction works on the luxurious tourist complex Cuna del Alma in Puertito de Armeñime.

According to Unidas Sí Podemos, the cancellation was informally communicated as the mandatory 48 hours notice for convening the session was not met.

Podemos alleges that the cancellation follows the PSOE’s (ruling party in the municipality) decision to address the “correction of material errors” in the urban planning modifications made in Puertito de Adeje within the Information Commission on Urban Planning. Construction on the Cuna del Alma luxury residential complex began in 2022 in this area.

Gabriel González, councilor for the Unidas Sí Podemos coalition, also highlighted that the planned discussion for Friday included a motion from his party requesting a halt to the construction of the contentious Cuna del Alma project. The construction company resumed work on the project after the regional Government lifted the stoppage imposed by the previous administration due to the absence of the required environmental impact report. González remarked that the cancellation of the plenary session “demonstrates the disregard of the Fraga government towards public demands to terminate this project, which has prompted several young people to go on a hunger strike for two weeks.”

Furthermore, González expressed “grave concern” over recent events, particularly following the departure of the technical secretary from the Town Hall. He suggested that the timing of the decision to cancel the session without prior notice raises suspicions. González stated, “Considering the track record of the current mayor and his team, one might question the coincidence of this significant and potentially irregular decision, especially when the Town Hall is expected to take a stance on a project facing penalties and stoppages due to alleged breaches of the law.”

“Despite being used to deception, Fraga must remember that decisions in Adeje are made by the municipal plenary session, not by his associates in construction company offices,” he concluded.
