The Tenerife Island Council has given a positive assessment for the development of the third lane project on the TF-5 motorway stretching between Guamasa and Los Rodeos Airport without any objections, covering a distance of 3.6 kilometers starting from the current Guamasa intersection to the San Lázaro junction.
During a press conference after the recent Government Council meeting, the Island’s President Rosa Dávila, accompanied by Vice President Lope Afonso, announced that “all assessments are favourable” regarding the Territorial Plan of the Road System of the Metropolitan Area and the Island’s mobility model. She emphasized that the project does not impact any Cultural Interest Assets (BIC) nor does it require a significant increase in natural resource consumption.
The assessment will now be submitted to the Government of the Canary Islands, and Dávila is hopeful that an agreement will be reached with the government before the year concludes, enabling the Island Council to directly proceed with the construction, estimated to cost around 55 million Euros. While she refrained from providing specific start dates for the project due to pending Environmental Impact Declaration, the Island’s President is optimistic about a rapid and favourable resolution to move forward with approving specifications and updating cost documents.
The main aim of this endeavour is to enhance traffic flow in a heavily congested section and improve safety conditions on a specific part of the TF-5 regional highway known for a high number of accidents.
Moreover, the Government Council has approved the tender for internal rehabilitation and restoration of façades at the extension of the Island Palace, with a budget of approximately 14 million Euros. Once assigned, the project is expected to be completed within a 32-month timeline.
Furthermore, approval has been granted for the slope stabilization works on Virgen de Candelaria street in Alcalá (Guía de Isora) within the Tourism sector. The project, funded with Next Generation funds, has a budget of 743,829 Euros and an envisaged completion period of eight months.
Additionally, a service contract to evaluate compliance with the Charter for the Sustainability of nature tourism activities and whale watching by participating companies has been awarded to Beta Group Services SAS Branch in Spain for 165,740 Euros, with an execution period of 16 months, supported by Next Generation funds.
Sports
Meanwhile, in the Sports domain, the criteria and subsidy call have been endorsed to recognise sporting achievements of Tenerife athletes in Spanish, European, and World championships held in 2023, amounting to 200,000 Euros.
Moreover, the Government Council authorised the tender for the Tenerife Island Reading Animation Program (Pialte) service costing approximately 374,000 Euros, along with the Island Citizen Participation Strategy for the Island Council of Tenerife 2024-2027.
Regarding Security and Emergencies, an extension of the framework agreement with the Official College of Psychology of Santa Cruz de Tenerife focusing on civil protection for the Island has been approved.
This initiative aims to provide on-site psychological support to individuals directly affected by extraordinary emergency situations in the civilian population or to secondary victims, who are individuals closely associated with the primary victims. The service also covers assistance to Security and Emergency professionals affiliated with the Cabildo who can intervene during crisis scenarios, including personnel from the Tenerife Fire Consortium and Brifor Operation.
