The right-hand lane of the San Andrés motorway heading towards The Theresies will be closed tomorrow between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for the repair of the main water pipe connecting the Santa Cruz de Tenerife desalination plant to the central storage and distribution depots.
This emergency repair follows an incident today where there was a leak in the mentioned pipeline, causing water spillage onto the San Andrés motorway at the Andrés Vidal avenue (Africuya) junction, near the María Jiménez neighbourhood.
Reported this afternoon by the Santa Cruz Mixed Water Company (Emmasa), the exact cause of the incident is currently unknown. The reason for the breakage will only be determined once the repair works commence tomorrow.
The repair process involves excavating the asphalt area using both mechanical and manual methods to locate the damaged section of the pipe. Subsequently, an assessment and repair of the main water supply pipeline will be carried out. Upon completion, the trench will be filled, the soil compacted, and the road surface reinstated.
The repair work is expected to last approximately eight hours, from seven in the morning until three in the afternoon. Once the work within this timeframe is finished, the road will be reopened. The final resurfacing of the road will be done at a later date.
During the pipeline repair, one of the two lanes in the same direction will be partially closed. The Local Police, in conjunction with the Port Police and the Port maintenance service, will coordinate with Emmasa to oversee the repair operations, mark the work area appropriately, and manage traffic flow.
