Strict Restrictions on Irrigation Water Supply Initiated by The Cabildo in Several Towns across Tenerife

The organization Balsas de Tenerife (Balten), under the governance of the Island Council, declared on Monday the commencement of restrictions on irrigation water supply in various regions of the island due to the water crisis that was officially recognised by the insular authority at the start of March [source](https://www.eldiario.es/canariasahora/tenerifeahora/cabildo/emergencia-hidrica-tenerife-obras-urgentes-concienciacion-turismo_1_10985443.html).

“The current state of an intense long-term drought declared on Tenerife in recent months, particularly affecting mid-range areas, has directly impacted the availability of irrigation water reserves managed by Balten, which currently stand at historically low levels. Additionally, in response to this situation, the demand for irrigation services provided to farmers has markedly risen during the winter months to tackle unusually hot and arid conditions,” stated the company.

Consequently, “we find ourselves compelled to introduce adjustments and enforce temporary restrictions on water supply based on the irrigation water availability in the specified areas.”

The rural regions within the municipalities of La Laguna, Tacoronte, La Matanza, and El Sauzal have been identified as the areas subject to these restrictions as of this Monday.

Balten has confirmed that these measures will remain in effect until further notice.
