Jennifer Miranda, Mayor of Granadilla de Abona (PSOE), has issued a statement calling on the Secretary of State for the Environment, Fernando Clavijo, President of Canary Islands, and Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, to “address jointly possible solutions to the La Tejita hotel project”.
This statement comes after the President of the Canary Islands announced a future meeting with Jennifer Miranda and José Miguel Fraga, Mayor of Adeje and also from the PSOE, to decide on how to proceed with the two tourist projects being carried out in their territories, La Tejita in Granadilla de Abona and Cuna del Alma in Adeje.
The halt of both constructions is part of the demands of the demonstration held last Saturday, within the context of the change in the tourist model requested by the demonstrators.
In the statement sent by the Granadilla City Council, it explains that there was an agreement between the former Government of the Canary Islands, led by the socialist Ángel Víctor Torres, and the promoter of the project for the public entity to acquire the land where the hotel is being built.
For Miranda, the current situation, following the demonstrations on April 20, is “crucial to engage all public administrations in the quest for a viable solution that ensures the protection of the coastal area”.

The hotel under construction in La Tejita, work was resumed by the promoter on February 26th. This project was halted in May 2021 by order of the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, a decision overturned by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) on July 17, 2023, made final on December 18th of that year. Last week, several activists entered the area where the works are taking place, prompting the company to stop the works.
