VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 20th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On Saturday morning, Maritime Rescue successfully rescued a drifting canoe located approximately 33 nautical miles from El Hierro. The canoe was carrying a total of 45 sub-Saharan migrants, including two infants.
Upon receiving a distress call from an irregular vessel around 9:00 a.m., 112 Canarias promptly informed the Tenerife Rescue Center.
Subsequently, the Helimer 206 helicopter and the Urania sea guard were deployed. By 10:15 a.m., the Urania sea guard confirmed the visual sighting of the canoe.
The rescue operation led to the successful retrieval of 45 individuals – comprising 41 men, two women, and two minors. One of them, in critical condition, had to be airlifted to the hospital.
Afterwards, the Urania sea guard transported the remaining migrants to the La Restinga Dock.
