Las Palmas Atlético missed the opportunity to take the lead in the Canarian group of the Tercera RFEF when they were overcome by Lanzarote at the Ciudad Deportiva de Arrecife. Lanzarote secured three points in the postponed match of the 26th round thanks to a solitary goal from Santi Rosa in the second half. With this result, UD’s reserve team loses the second spot to Únión Sur Yaiza, trailing by two points and three points away from the top of the table.
The first half was marked by the intensity and focus of the red team. The first warning came from the locals with a volley from Leo Pierce that went over the crossbar. Three minutes later, in another chance for Lanzarote, a cross from the left wing by Dani Febles was headed over by Leo Pierce himself.
Before the half-hour mark, Las Palmas Atlético responded with a shot from Diego Martín that went close to the post’s base. Before half-time, Lanzarote once again threatened the Castellonense goalkeeper Nacho Nicolau; a header from Adrián Machín, in the heart of the area and after a free-kick taken by Álex Fuentes, went over the crossbar.
UD’s reserve team, which barely troubled Ruymán’s goal before half-time, had more ball possession in the second half. The visitors opted for penetrations down the wings against a rival that did not lower the intensity to repel the attempts of the team from Gran Canaria.
Lanzarote had a good opportunity after a cross from the left that was controlled by Álex Fuentes on the far post to pass to Guize, who had a weak shot that ended up easily in Nicolau’s hands.
The response came with a clear chance for the reserve team. José Ángel sent a through ball for Pau Ferrer to enter the area and take a shot that went over the crossbar.
Las Palmas Atlético left spaces, which the home team took advantage of to launch a quick counterattack in which Isma Traoré passed to Santi Rosa, who beat Nicolau with a cross-shot. In the final stretch of the match, the reserve team pushed for the equaliser against Lanzarote, even hindered by Traoré’s injury. The red team could have sealed the victory in an action where León Gómez missed his shot.
