SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17th April (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Cabildo marked World Hemophilia Day today in a ceremony at the Noble Hall of the insular Corporation. Later at 7:00 p.m., the front facade of the Corporation will be lit up in red to raise awareness about this disease and other inherited bleeding disorders.

Notable attendees at the event included the Cabildo’s president, Rosa Dávila; the vice president, Lope Afonso; the advisor to the Presidency, José Miguel Ruano; the Social Action councillor, Águeda Fumero, and other members of the Corporation who welcomed the president of the Hemophilia Association in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Ahete).

Rosa Dávila highlighted that World Hemophilia Day offers a “unique opportunity for the voices of those affected by a ‘rare disease’ to be heard, advocating for improvements and shedding light on the reality faced by individuals and families living with it.

The Cabildo also commended Ahete for their significant efforts in raising awareness about this lesser-known disease and urged them to continue seeking support from all levels of administration and society.

Águeda Fumero, the Social Action Minister, praised Ahete’s extensive work in awareness and prevention, noting their participation in the Tenerife Social Policy Ring and their various projects supporting employment opportunities.

On this day, the Social Action councillor stressed the crucial role of public administration in supporting groups like Ahete, as raising awareness involves sharing knowledge to enhance the quality of life for patients dealing with this illness.

To mark World Hemophilia Day, the Cabildo’s façade will be lit up in red from 7:00 p.m. onwards today in a bid to increase awareness about this disease and other genetic coagulation disorders.

Established in 1992, Ahete focuses on the social integration and well-being of individuals with hemophilia or other congenital coagulation disorders and their families in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife province. Hemophilia, affecting one in ten thousand individuals at birth, is a condition where the blood clotting system functions inadequately, leading to slower clotting.
