An ambulance unit rushed to La Laguna last night, for the first time since the hunger strike began by ‘Canarias Se Agota’, to attend to one of the protestors who was suffering from severe hypoglycemia after six days without eating.
The group reported that the assisted person was eventually stabilized and stated that the presence of medical teams will become increasingly common in La Concepcion Square in La Laguna, where they have been camping since the beginning of their demands, as the hunger strike progresses.
According to ‘Canarias Se Agota’, they criticise that the health of the hunger strikers “does not seem to concern the regional government or the president Fernando Clavijo, who does not find time in his schedule to implement a tourist moratorium, create binding assemblies or halt the Tejita hotel and the Cuna del Alma megaproject.”
The group ‘Canarias Se Agota’ believes that the Government, as the spearhead of social organization, “must ensure the protection of its citizens and advocate for dialogue regarding their demands and needs in a situation of extreme danger such as a hunger strike. Far from fulfilling this obligation, Clavijo remains without a response to this day.”
The group has indicated that many politicians have stated in recent days that a calm dialogue should be established, but the hunger strikers still do not have the opportunity to have this debate.

The protestors gave the Government ten days to listen to their demands, and more and more people are showing support for the cause, but it has been more than 160 hours that six of these individuals are still without food. “Our bodies may be weakening, but our determination and will are unbreakable. We will not stop until our goal is achieved, which is nothing more than the possibility of a future for a very exhausted Canary Islands,” they assure. “The fate and health of the hunger strikers now hang by a very thin thread, and only political inaction can break it,” they warn.
