A 40-year-old foreign swimmer sustained serious injuries after falling into the sea from Charco El Tancón, in Los Gigantes, located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide (Tenerife), and colliding with the rocks. This information was reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center of 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands.
El Tancón is a pond with crystal-clear waters, but it is considered highly perilous due to the numerous accidents, including some fatalities, that have taken place there. The tranquil waters can swiftly transform into turbulent ones depending on the waves or tides, leaving those present with no means of escape.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the aforementioned location, where members of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched. Upon arrival, they successfully retrieved the injured individual from the water and brought him ashore.
Subsequently, the Tenerife Firefighters team transferred the injured man to an ambulance, where medical personnel confirmed that he had sustained severe injuries to his lower extremities. Consequently, he was transferred in a sterile ambulance from the SUC to the Hospiten Sur University Hospital.
Local police officers also attended the scene of the incident, providing assistance to the emergency services.
