Today, the Tenerife Cabildo and the Guía de Isora City Council celebrated the inauguration of the Playa San Juan promenade, which was made possible by an investment of approximately 2 million euros. The insular Corporation financed 80% of the project while the remaining 20% was contributed by the southern municipality.
The President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, along with the Vice President, Lope Afonso, and the Mayor, Ana Dorta, held discussions with various officials including the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, and the Minister of Citizen Assistance, Candelaria Padrón, as well as the First Deputy Mayor, Carlos Álvarez.
Rosa Dávila highlighted the numerous ongoing projects in Guía de Isora and stated that the launch of this coastal space at Playa San Juan is a significant step. “It is a tangible connection to the sea with a substantial investment of two million euros,” she expressed.
“There are other projects in progress during this term, such as the Senior Center, which aims to enhance the living conditions of the residents. We have also surveyed Alcalá’s Journey and the ring road. It is essential for the Cabildo and the City Council to work collaboratively and efficiently on these projects to avoid delays, as they are vital for the municipality of Guía de Isora,” Dávila added.
Lope Afonso emphasised that the improvements made aim to enhance accessibility along the coast of Playa San Juan, benefitting both Guía de Isora and Tenerife as a whole. He mentioned that the intervention sought to strike a balance between the residents’ interests and the area’s tourist and commercial aspects. “This development allows us to appreciate the magnificent landscape here by widening sidewalks, facilitating pedestrian traffic, creating shaded areas, and renewing street furniture,” he remarked.
“It promotes local commerce and identity as the absence of barriers enhances the value of this unique setting. The inclusion of terrace spaces supports the recovery efforts of businesses, restaurants, and cafes post-pandemic in this area. Economic activities surrounding commerce and tourism are crucial elements that are further complemented by initiatives like this included in the Tenerife and the Sea programme,” explained the Vice President of the Cabildo.
Lope Afonso confirmed ongoing collaboration with the Guía de Isora City Council, stating that efforts will continue with the coastal revitalisation project in the Alcalá region by reinforcing and conditioning the slopes, supporting median restoration projects, and enhancing tourism in these areas to ensure shared prosperity. “We remain committed to enhancing public spaces through public investments and aligning actions with the best interests of the Guía de Isora City Council and, most importantly, the citizens,” he added.
Mayor Ana Dorta noted the significance of the undertaken work at Playa San Juan in response to the demands for tourist space enhancements expressed by the business sector and residents. The creation of additional parking spaces aims to streamline access to this area, which has greatly benefited from this joint investment by the Cabildo and the City Council.
