Hiker Sustains Injury as a Large Stone Falls on His Foot in Tenerife



An individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered moderate injuries while trekking in the Erques gorge, located in the town of Güímar, Tenerife. This information was provided by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2.

The incident took place at approximately 1:20 p.m. when the 1-1-2 emergency hotline received a distress call reporting a hiker in need of medical aid due to a sizeable rock landing on their foot.

Promptly, 1-1-2 mobilised emergency services, including the rescue helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Canary Islands government; personnel from the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium; a paramedic ambulance from the SUC; local law enforcement, and the Civil Guard.

The GES helicopter team and firefighters reached the injured individual and airlifted them to Tenerife North Airport. Upon landing, healthcare professionals from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the injured hiker and transported him to Ntra. Sra. de Candelaria University Hospital. The police services provided collaboration throughout the operations.
