The Güímar Town Council approved an investment plan amounting to 8,772,000 euros, earmarked for actions in public works, employment promotion, improvement of facilities, and machinery for waste collection and cleaning services. The proposal from the municipal government had the support of the supporting parties (CC, PSOE, and USP), and was rejected by the Popular Party (PP). The councilor from Nueva Canarias did not attend.
Of the total amount, 3,108,334 euros come from a credit supplement that will be used in public works and employment promotion. The remaining 5,663,665 euros, which will also be used in public works, will go towards improving municipal facilities, acquiring properties, and purchasing machinery for street cleaning and waste collection, which will be contributed to the public commercial company.
Gustavo Pérez, Mayor of Güímar, explains that the goal is to meet the municipality’s needs, as confirmed by the local government through citizen participation meetings held in the neighbourhoods. “All these actions are part of the commitments set and acquired by this government group at the beginning of their term, so we will continue working in this direction. We fulfill the objectives of the governance agreement.” Pérez is convinced that “Güímar will undergo a major transformation in its services and facilities.”
To this end, over 1.2 million euros are budgeted for the acquisition of plots in different locations; in sports, the investment will exceed 750,000 euros, of which 500,000 euros will be allocated to sports infrastructure; 70,000 for maintenance, and 35,000 euros for the new lighting of the Tasagaya field. The Quique Ruiz sports hall will receive 60,000 euros to renew the parquet flooring and install new fire prevention facilities; while the mountain bike circuit and calisthenics area will benefit from improvements totaling 90,000 euros.
Strengthening waste collection services involves the purchase of machinery amounting to one million euros; gardens will be reinforced with the allocation for new and modern trucks, elevators, and wood chippers, enabling the expansion of landscaped areas. 700,000 euros will go towards the electrical installations of buildings and public lighting, a similar amount will be used to develop an asphalt plan.
The promotion of Güímar’s primary sector activity will benefit from half a million for the Farmer’s Market.
