The Municipal Council of La Laguna, under the Health Department, has established the first Health Roundtable in the region to focus on enhancing local health promotion strategies. Consisting of professionals, municipal experts, and representatives from the seven primary health zones of La Laguna, the Primary Care and Public Health Management, along with health organizations, aim to coordinate collaborative efforts in the realms of prevention and health promotion across personal, health, social, work, and educational areas.
Emphasizing the significance of forming this Roundtable, the Health Councillor, Domingo Galván, expressed gratitude for the willingness and positive attitude exhibited by the La Laguna health community “to unite, tackle health-related issues holistically, and progress together towards a healthier future for all residents.” Galván highlighted that the council aligns with the National Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy within the National Health System, as set out by the Ministry of Health. “Within this national and Canary Islands health strategy, we strive to provide citizens with resources that enhance their well-being, such as promoting healthy eating, preventing drug addiction, fostering physical, mental, and emotional wellness, promoting active ageing, encouraging healthy leisure, and ensuring environmental sustainability,” he specified. “The establishment of this body will enable us to gain firsthand insight into the situations and concerns that are most pressing for health professionals, in terms of infrastructure, resources, and services, to tailor our initiatives to address their real needs,” emphasized the councillor.
The meeting also saw the participation of the Drug Addiction Councillor, Sergio Eiroa, who acknowledged the dedication of all entities, associations, and health stakeholders in La Laguna, amounting to nearly a hundred spread throughout the region, acknowledging the ongoing assistance and care they provide in various neighbourhoods and towns to support residents. “We are steadfast in our commitment to collaborate, within our competencies, across all sectors – health, education, and municipal – that benefit individuals, families, and the wider community,” stated Eiroa. She also underscored the council’s endeavours to promote healthy lifestyles, with a particular emphasis on the youth.
