ROUGH SEAS IN TENERIFE | Destruction left behind by powerful waves

When the sea unleashes its power, the coast of the Canary Islands suffers. This is what has been happening these days in the southern area of Tenerife, where the waves have caused significant issues in municipalities such as Arico, Güímar, Arafo, and Candelaria.

In the latter two, the waves caused severe damage to three buildings. In Arafo, at the Playa de Lima, the force of the water created a hole in a coastal house. The uninhabited and already deteriorated house suffered extensive damage and is at risk of collapsing.

In the images, you can see how the waves tore down an entire wall, exposing one of the rooms of the property. Inside, a bed can be seen amidst the remnants of the disaster caused by the waves.

Meanwhile, in Candelaria, two houses located on Obispo Pérez Cáceres street, known as La Arena, have once again been affected by the onslaught of the sea. If in 2021, these houses experienced another maritime incident, this week’s events have worsened the condition of these buildings.

This is not the first time this has happened, and the residents of the area have repeatedly called for a solution to this problem. Houses adjacent to the sea are damaged during coastal storms. A breakwater is the most popular idea among the citizens living in that location.
