SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11th of April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The maritime storm that predominantly hit the southwest coast of Tenerife has started to calm down but has resulted in the evacuation of a total of 130 homes and one hundred residents in the municipalities of Güímar and Arico, as reported by sources from the Cabildo de Tenerife to Europa Press.
A significant number of the affected houses are holiday homes, while the remaining residents have sought shelter with friends and family. Additionally, about a dozen individuals – five women, three men, and two children – are currently accommodated in the temporary shelter managed by the Red Cross in Abades.
The island authority has stated that the night in the southeastern region passed without major incidents, with waves reaching one meter in height compared to the four-meter waves observed on Wednesday, and wind gusts reaching a maximum speed of up to 30 kilometers per hour.
The Cabildo has issued a reminder to the public, advising against standing at the end of docks or breakwaters where waves strike, refraining from taking photos or videos on the coastal areas where waves break, avoiding driving on roads close to the shoreline during high tides, and steering clear of engaging in sports or recreational activities near the coast.
