SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy Minister of Tourism for the Canary Islands, José Manuel Sanabria, along with the Director General of Tourism Planning, Training, and Promotion, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, met on Wednesday with the island councils to provide a detailed overview of the proposed Law on Sustainable Planning for Tourism Housing Use.

Regarding the draft law’s progress status, the director general informed that it is currently in the hearing and public information phase, available on the Transparency Portal from 3rd October until 2nd May 2024. He also highlighted the councils’ support for the document’s main principles, while being open to potential enhancements and contributions.

The councils were asked to present additional suggestions and contributions and agreed on the importance of this law as a key regulation for organising tourist housing use through urban and territorial planning. They also emphasised the necessity of addressing and debating an issue that the Canary Islands cannot delay any longer.

Moreover, they recognised the significance of this document in offering a foundation to propose alternatives and develop a law that effectively regulates the holiday home rental phenomenon.

The director general expressed his gratitude for the councils’ engagement and encouraged continued collaboration and consensus-building to develop a law with broad implications for society and the region,” concluding Miguel Ángel Rodríguez.
