The strong waves surprised several towns on the southern coast of Tenerife, to the extent that 40 people had to be evacuated. Additionally, among those affected were the caravan users: the sea even managed to drag several of these vehicles along.
According to the Emergencies councillor of Tenerife’s Cabildo, Blanca Pérez, in statements to Radio Club Tenerife, this happened in the municipality of Güímar, specifically in the El Socorro area which was most affected by the force of the waves.
At that point, the caravans parked along the beachfront were swept away by the water, although Pérez herself ensures they have now been retrieved. “There were no personal injuries but the situation was critical,” acknowledged the island councillor on Radio Club’s microphones.
However, other vehicles were moved preventively from their location, especially considering that the sea conditions are far from calming down. In fact, an increase in the tide is expected this afternoon, for which security measures are already being reinforced.

In fact, the caravan incident is particularly striking when considering that in recent weeks this type of activity has been immersed in controversy, following the complaint by numerous residents of various Tenerife towns that warns of the overcrowding and lack of control of these vehicles.

Indeed, Tenerife’s own Cabildo admitted that there is no uniform regulation for the entire territory and announced the plans of the insular institution to engage with the councils to find solutions, especially regarding the areas designated for caravans and other similar vehicles on the island.
