SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 9th April (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tomorrow, starting at 08:00, the Cabildo of Tenerife will implement grade 2 measures to prevent forest fires due to meteorological conditions and the forest fire risk alert declared by the Government of the Canary Islands through the General Directorate of Emergencies.
This alert has been issued based on information from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and other sources. An influx of warm and dry African continental air, along with varying degrees of haze, is expected to bring abnormally high temperatures for this time of year in the coming days.
Outdoor fires, including barbecues, bonfires, and gas stoves, are prohibited. The use of machinery or tools that may create sparks (such as brush cutters, welding equipment, or cutting radials) is also banned, and the use of pyrotechnic materials in high-risk areas is not allowed. Additionally, recreational areas, campsites, and camping grounds are off-limits, as well as driving motor vehicles on forest trails for recreational purposes. Sporting events and pilgrimages on forest and cross-country paths are also prohibited.
The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety, and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, emphasized that these measures are implemented to ensure people’s safety. The public is advised not to venture into the mountains during this alert. Temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees in forested areas starting tomorrow, so caution is urged to prevent any activities that could lead to a fire. The grade 2 forest fire prevention restrictions will stay in place until the alert situation is lifted.
